I picked up a Delta bandsaw 28-245 and a Grizzly jointer G0452 yesterday off craigslist for what I felt like was too good of a deal to pass up. I don’t know a whole lot about these 2 pieces of equipment but I have a delta table saw and love it and I know Grizzly it pretty reputable so I figured I would go for it. I’m now trying to hunt down manuals for both and I have a few questions. I got on Delta’s website and looked under their manual section but they do not have this model listed. Also, did a brief google search for the grizzly manual and couldn’t come up with anything.
Bandsaw questions: – I’m not sure if something is bent a little or if I need to make some adjustments but there are a few items that concern me. If I move the sliding assembly that basically widens the throat (not sure of the name) up pretty far it is rubbing on the upper wheel. It’s like the sliding part or the wheel is cocked too far one way and doesn’t allow the sliding part to move freely all the way up. – Also, the blade is not riding on either the top or bottom roller bearing. I assume it is supposed to?
Delta Band Saw 28-180
If you are facing the bandsaw the blade is too far to the left and on the bottom bearing it sits about 1/2” to the left of the bearing. Jointer questions: – This thing seems to be in good working order but I haven’t messed with it much yet. Anything I need to know about this particular model?
Thanks in advance. Here are some pics below. The sliding part is the blade guard. I have a 28-245 and the guard doesn’t hit the wheel.
There’s an adjustment thumbscrew by the blade tension knob to tilt the wheel., but it’s really for blade tracking. If the wheel is that out of whack, then you may have something bent, but it’s also possible that the upper frame is not aligned properly where it bolts on? I’ve never had mine frame apart, so I don’t know if there are any alignment pins or not. AS for the guides (bearings), you should be able to adjust them to the proper location. I’d try to figure out why the upper wheel is so far out, though. I have had a G0452 for about 4 1/2 years now after an initial problem with a nicked knife, it has been a flawless performer.
I never take deep cuts I would rather make several passes than try to hog off a lot of material in a single pass. Assuming the guy that set it up did it right (the manual is pretty good) you should have clear sailing. I did replace the factory-supplied knives with a set of Freud knives, and I bought a ‘Jointer Pal’ to make setting up knives easier when I change them. Delta has very easy-to-find model numbers. Usually you’ll find them on the nameplate or warning label, which are usually on the bottom or side of the tool. Yup, it’s that convenient. Usually the model number will be clearly labeled. Since Delta is an older company, their model numbers change based on the type of tool. By far the most common Delta numbers are 5 digits.
First two numbers, then a dash, then three numbers (XX-XXX). They do use letters in some of their tools aimed towards home shop woodworkers. For example, the TP300 or a DP350. But only around 10 percent of their entire model number catalog strays from the XX-XXX format. Delta Type numbers are most commonly displayed as “Type 1” or simply “T-1” or “T1” on their tools. For some of their larger tools, such as table saws, check the top of the equipment for the label.

The use of accessories and attachments not recommended by Delta may cause damage to the machine or injury to the user. USE THE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. ADJUSTING THE TABLE STOPS To adjust the 90 degree stop DISCONNECT POWER SOURCE. Loosen the table clamp handles (A) Fig. 43, and tilt the table to the right. Rotate the stop (B) Fig. 45 out of the way. Move the blade tension handle to the left until the lever lock (B) Fig.
49 engages the blade tension lever handle (A). The band saw blade tension can be fine tuned by turning adjustment nut (N) Fig. 51, while the blade is tensioned.
Adjust the guides (A) Fig. 55 so that the front edge of the guides are just behind the “gullets” of the saw teeth. The complete guide block bracket can be moved in or out by loosening the thumb screw (C) and turning the knurled knob (D) Fig. 56 so that it is about 1/64' behind the back of the blade. CHANGING SPEEDS An advantage of this machine is that it can be changed instantly from a slow-speed metal cutting band saw to a high- speed wood cutting band. DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER SOURCE. Light pressure on the work piece will produce a smoother cut, and prevent excess friction, and heating of the blade.
KEEP THE SAW BLADE SHARP. Very little forward pressure is required for normal cutting. Keep the workpiece moving at a slow and consistent rate against the blade to ensure a smooth and accurate cut. When withdrawing the piece being cut, changing the cut, or for any other reason, be careful not to accidentally draw the blade off the wheels. In most cases, it is easier and safer to turn the stock and saw out through the waste material, rather than try to withdraw the stock from the blade. Trouble: BAND SAW DOES NOT COME UP TO SPEED. Probable Cause 1.

This will save blades and will produce better cuts. For cutting wood and similar materials, Delta offers blades in widths of 1/8', 1/4', 3/8', 1/2' and 3/4'. Delta also offers several 1/2' blades for metal cutting of different teeth per inch configurations.
